Picks – Week 8, 2010
Oct 22nd
Purdue (4-2) at Ohio State (6-1)
Line: Ohio State by 24.
Saturday, 12:00 ET
Wisconsin just beat up Ohio State. The Buckeyes’ national title hopes are over, and they have nothing to play for. Purdue, meanwhile, has won two in a row. This is the biggest game of the Boilermakers’ season, and I expect them to cover.
Prediction: Ohio State 27, Purdue 17
Purdue +24 (4 Units)
Michigan State (7-0) at Northwestern (5-1)
Line: Michigan State by 5.5.
Saturday, 12:00 ET
Northwestern is a very tough place to play. Back in 2005, when Penn State won the Orangle Bowl, they nearly escaped from Northwestern with a win, having to rely on a last-second touchdown.
These Wildcats are a solid 5-1 and have had two weeks to prepare for this contest. Michigan State, meanwhile, could be looking ahead to Iowa next Saturday.
Prediction: Northwestern 27, Michigan State 23
Northwestern +5.5 (3 Units)
Wyoming (2-5) at BYU (2-5)
Line: BYU by 10.5.
Saturday, 2:00 ET
Why is BYU favored by double digits? Since their opener, the Cougars have outgained only one team. There is no reason they should be giving more than six points in this matchup.
Prediction: BYU 21, Wyoming 17
Wyoming +10.5 (3 Units)
Arizona State (3-3) at California (3-3)
Line: California by 3.
Saturday, 3:30 ET
This is a tough spot for Cal. They’re coming off a tough loss to USC and could be flat against an Arizona State squad that has had two weeks to prepare for this contest.
Prediction: Arizona State 27, California 21
Arizona State +3 (4 Units)
Oklahoma (6-0) at Missouri (6-0)
Line: Oklahoma by 3.
Saturday, 8:00 ET
Can someone tell me why Oklahoma is first in the BCS poll? Didn’t they nearly lose to Cincinnati and Air Force? The Sooners are a bit of a fraud, and I think they’ll get hammered at Missouri this Saturday. The Tigers are coming off a win on the road and are now underdogs under the lights with the Game Day crew on site. That’s usually a recipe for success.
Prediction: Missouri 34, Oklahoma 24
Missouri +3 (2 Units)

Oct 15th
Miami of Ohio 3-3 at Central Michigan 2-4
Line: Central Michigan by 13.
Saturday, 12:00 ET
Central Michigan is getting way too much respect for what they did last year because they arent anywhere close to 13 points better than Miami of Ohio. Central Michigan lost to Ball State at home for crying out loud.
Prediction: Central Michigan 26, Miami of Ohio 24
Miami of Ohio +13 (2 Units)
Iowa (4-1) at Michigan (5-1)
Line: Iowa by 3.
Saturday, 3:30 ET
Michigan had an easy early-season schedule, which allowed them to jump out to a fraudulent 5-0 record. They lost last week and aren’t playing well right now. I like Iowa.
Prediction: Iowa 27, Michigan 17
Iowa -3 (3 Units)
Mississippi State (4-2) at Florida (4-2)
Line: Florida by 7.5.
Saturday, 7:00 ET
Florida was deflated last week after its loss to Alabama. I think the Gators will bounce back with a big victory here; Mississippi State isn’t very good.
Prediction: Florida 31, Mississippi State 13
Florida -7.5 (2 Units)
Ole Miss (2-3) at Alabama (5-1)
Line: Alabama by 21.
Saturday, 9:00 ET
The answer to this question may surprise you: How many conference wins of 20-plus does Alabama have since November of 2008? Three. That’s it.
Ole Miss isn’t as bad as the teams Alabama has beaten over that stretch. In fact, the Rebels have had two weeks to prepare for this game. The Tide, meanwhile, could be reeling coming off their first loss in a very long time.
Prediction: Alabama 27, Ole Miss 17
Ole Miss +21 (4 Units)

Oct 14th
Kansas State (4-1) at Kansas (2-3)
Line: Kansas State by 3.
Thursday, 7:30 ET
Kansas State lost their big game last week and now have to come back as road favorite over an “inferior” team. I just don’t like this spot for them. Traveling on a weeknight is tough enough.
The public is pounding Kansas State, yet this line hasn’t moved up at all.
Prediction: Kansas 24, Kansas State 20
Kansas +3 (4 Units)

Oct 8th
Minnesota (1-4) at Wisconsin (4-1)
Line: Wisconsin by 22.
Saturday, 12:00 ET
This line is way too high. In the past three weeks, Minnesota has played close games with USC and Northwestern. Wisconsin is coming off a loss and won’t be as sharp.
Prediction: Wisconsin 24, Minnesota 20
Minnesota +22 (3 Units)
Illinois (2-2) at Penn State (3-2)
Line: Penn State by 7.5.
Saturday, 12:00 ET
I’ve bet against Penn State a couple of times this year. Not this Saturday. Illinois is complete garbage, but managed to catch Ohio State in a down week. Their tight contest with the Buckeyes, as well as Penn State’s loss to Iowa has deflated this line. I’ll like the value we’re getting with the Nittany Lions.
Prediction: Penn State 31, Illinois 13
Penn State -7.5 (4 Units)
Arizona State (2-3) at Washington (2-2)
Line: Washington by 2.5.
Saturday, 10:00 ET
Washington beat USC. Too bad USC isn’t very good. In the wake of their victory, the Huskies have been a bit overrated by the betting public. I’m taking the better team getting points here.
Prediction: Arizona State 34, Washington 24
Arizona State +2.5 (2 Units)

The Joker Report: Picks – Week 3
Sep 17th
***2 Beckinsales*** TCU -17 Baylor – This is actually one I thought about listing, but couldn’t pull the trigger. The computer holds TCU in favor 12.20 points, so that was enough to convince me. Now granted some of this could have to do with Robert Griffin not playing most of last year, and that’s somehow calculated in the formula – I don’t know, nor do I care. Because if the Horned Frogs want to show the world they’re legit, they slap the Bears around on the field offensively and defensively. Griffin may get his, but this could be a TCU rout and the start to a LOT more pub/talk for these BCS busters.
***2 Beckinsales*** East Carolina +18 VIRGINIA TECH – This actually has nothing to do with the Hokies sucking balls like ol’ Francine Dee up there. It’s more like the new Pirates coach – Ruffin McNeill and all 800 pounds of him – knows how to coach, especially defensively. Couple that with a playmaker quarterback in Dominique Davis, and VT doesn’t have an easy opponent to eliminate the James Madison heartache. If they do indeed get back on track, I’ll only lose 2 Becks on this’n, so no worries. 18 sure is a lot of points to cover with a shitty OC, though.
***3 Beckinsales*** SMU -22 Washington State - Sticking with (against?) my Wazu until they man up. June Jones and SMU’s passing attack has been iffy to start the season, which is probably why we’re looking at this sort of spread and not more. But the Stangers should handle them, because the oddsmakers are off on that spread in my opinion – and they may not be “on” all year. The Cougs still suck this year, only beating Montana State by a point.
***3 Beckinsales*** Boise State -23.5 WYOMING - The James Madison victory over Virginia Tech has forced Coach Petersen’s hand – throw down, or get completely left out of the BCSCG yet again. The Cowboys may be getting better from year to year, but the Broncos know they need to start dominating and running up the score to get that crystal. It starts in Laramie.
***4 Beckinsales*** Utah -24 NEW MEXICO – Similar to the Wazu pick, Los Lobos suck ass. Even worse than the Cougars, in fact: 115th rush D, 118th pass D, 120th scoring D. Meanwhile Utah has already pulled the upset against Pittsburgh, trounced UNLV, and they’re salivating at the sight of playing some mismanaged, poorly coached Wolves. Big money, no whammies…STOP!!! Hope I’m as “lucky” as this guy, who beat the system and made everyone look like a fool.
That’s it for now, my dear friends. If I have time (or get bored), I’ll chit chat on the upcoming Bama/Duke game later this week. Now get up and go enjoy the nice weather we’re having, ya bunch of fat asses.

The Joker Report: Week 2 Picks
Sep 10th
WARNING – the Joker Report went 1-4 (-12 units) for week 1. So read at your own risk. Also, click the link below for “Sophie”
4 Sophies BYU 1 @ Air Force: BYU handles U-Dub and Jake Locker, but they are going to turn around and lose to Air Force? I don’t think so. You don’t get all up in arms and plan to go Independent unless you like where your program is and where it is headed.
4 Sophies Oregon -12 @ Tennessee: UT is going to be not good this year. Oregon is NOT Tennessee-Martin. I hate to pick against the conference and I am all for Dooley, but I just think reality is going to set in early for UT and that starts this weekend.
4 Sophies LSU -10 @ Vanderbilt: Yes, Les is a moron, but this is still Vanderbilt. They lost to Northwestern. They aren’t going to win many games this year and no matter who is coaching LSU, they still have talent in bunches.
3 Sophies: Nebraska -28 vs. Idaho: I don’t think Nebraska is ready for primetime yet, but that MartinezGuittierez/Lopez whatever guy at QB looked really, really good last week. Idaho ain’t ready for that jelly. Plus, Piutuli or however the hell you spell it ain’t there anymore.

Penn State (1-0) at Alabama (1-0)
Line: Alabama by 11.5.
Saturday, 7:00 ET
Look, I’m a Penn State alumnus, and I can confidently say that the talent level between these two teams isn’t even close. Our true freshman quarterback is not ready to go into Alabama and beat the Crimson Tide. This has major blowout written all over it. I love Alabama -11.5; the spread is too low because the idiot poll voters have overvalued Penn State based on last year’s results.
Prediction: Alabama 38, Penn State 6
Alabama -11.5 (5 Units)

Memphis (0-1) at East Carolina (1-0)
Line: East Carolina by 12.5.
Saturday, 12:00 ET
What oddsmaker did East Carolina’s head coach sleep with to get his team favored by 12.5? The Pirates have just seven returning starters. I don’t see how they’re favored by more than a touchdown over anyone.
Prediction: East Carolina 24, Memphis 20
Memphis +12.5 (2 Units)

Wk 2 – Thurs. Night Game
Sep 9th
Auburn (1-0) at Mississippi State (1-0)
Line: Auburn by 2.5.
Thursday, 7:45 ET
I don’t understand this spread. Is Auburn better than Mississippi State? Yes, but only slightly. Both squads finished their 2009 seasons with a 3-4 record, and both have 15 starters returning. Auburn has a new quarterback though, who will be starting his first road game. Playing at Mississippi State on a weeknight will be a very daunting task.
This is my favorite college football betting scenario – taking a live home dog playing on a weeknight, when there’s tons of action on the visitor and the line is moving the other way. Auburn opened -2 on Pinnacle and has dropped to -1.5 despite the fact that 84 percent of the money in Vegas is being bet on them.
Mississippi State is available for +2.5 on Bodog. They are my September College Football Pick of the Month.
Prediction: Mississippi State 31, Auburn 20
Mississippi State +2.5
