Gators’ wide receiver Chris Rainey arrested for aggravated stalking
Sep 14th
Christopher Rainey, 22, of Lakeland, a wide receiver for the Gators, was charged with aggravated stalking of a woman he has been dating on and off for about three years.
Gainesville police said the incident began when the woman fell asleep and missed a call from Rainey.
Officer Jesse Bostick said Rainey went to the woman’s home, and she talked to him for about 10 minutes and then told him to leave.
According to Bostick, Rainey sent a text to the woman that said: “Time to die.” The woman called police after receiving the text.
Bostick said that when he arrived at the woman’s home he told the woman to call Rainey so that he could talk to him.
The woman said that when she told Rainey that police wanted to speak to him, Rainey’s response was, “Wait and see what happens when they leave.”

Showdown Saturday has it all – NCAA Football – CBSSports.com
Sep 10th
Random thoughts from CBSSports.com…
Michigan-Notre Dame: Denard Robinson just saved Rich Rodriguez’s job. That was WWL’s first impression last week when Michigan’s quarterback was embarrassing UConn. There is hope, a spirit back with Michigan football. Robinson is the triggerman that Rich Rod has had in his offenses since Shaun King at Tulane in 1998. An 8-4 season looks possible. That would help AD Dave Brandon get past possibly crippling NCAA penalties.
Florida State at Oklahoma: Pressure’s on Christian Ponder. He missed the last four games last season but still has his own Heisman website. It’s on him in Norman, facing a defense that was porous against Utah State last week. The Sooners gave up 441 yards, 340 of those on 12 plays to the Aggies. FSU gave up only 20 sacks last season, none last week to Samford. This is doable, cp7.

Will 5-7 Teams to Be Allowed to Play in Bowls?
Sep 10th
Has the NCAA backed itself into a corner and does the governing body have no choice but to allow teams with 5-7 records into postseason play?In April, the NCAA certified an all-time high of 35 bowl games through January 2014. That means 70 of the 120 Division I-A teams will be needed to fill the bowl lineup. Under current NCAA rules, a team must finish 6-6 or better with only one victory against a I-AA opponent to be eligible for the postseason.Only 71 teams met the criteria the past three seasons. Compounding matters for the next two seasons: the pool of eligible teams has been reduced to 119. USC, which has played in the postseason for nine consecutive years, is banned from bowl play until 2012.

Boise State avoided the Nebraska Cornhuskers : TheHusker.Com
Sep 10th
Nebraska Cornhusker Assistant Athletic Director Jeff Jamrog attempted to schedule a Home/Home or a one time trip to play Boise State in the non-conference schedule for 2011. Boise State officials did not even bother to reply to the formal offer. Boise State requested a minimum $1 Million dollars to play in Lincoln; nearly $250,000 more than what a non-conference opponent in BCS conference would get. Boise State officials have “no comment” about the offer.

Inflation Rate Affecting Laker’s Currency Exchange
Sep 9th
Many moons ago Lakers’ 2010 second-round draft pick Derrick Caracter, a 6-9, 280-poundish power forward, was the top-rated high school basketball prospect in the country. But the trappings of fame apparently swallowed up Caracter, who authored an uneventful college career at Louisville and UTEP. (Actually, he swallowed it.)
(Caracter: Fades of Benoit Benjamin)
Caracter, who played well above 300 pounds in college, ballooned as high as 320 before he was signed by IMG before the NBA draft and put through an eight-week workout ringer. Thanks to a Star Jones-esque (though non-surgical) transformation, he was taken 58th overall by the Lakers. Even then, Caracter needed a strong summer league to earn himself a two-year contract with the club worth $473,000 the first season.
Then there’s the weighty matter of Caracter actually guaranteeing half of that cash. (more…)
Coach K. Baits Traitorous Ex-Pat Coaching Russia
Sep 9th
Tomorrow is the 38th anniversary of the 1972 Olympic basketball gold medal game between the United States and the Soviet Union. In an unconscionable travesty neatly fashioned by game officials to resemble an actual competition, the Soviets were awarded a 51-50 victory that day. (Thanks to their performance, the referees went on to wildly successful professional wrestling officiating careers.)
(Thursday: USA-Russia game is 38th anniversary of USA-USSR travesty)
The game is generally regarded as the most disappointing and disputed loss in the history of American international competition. In the aftermath, the entire U.S. Olympic basketball contingent refused its silver medals. (Reggie Bush wasn’t suited up.)
You want the Cliffs?
With three seconds remaining in the game, the U.S. went up 50-49 on two free throws by Doug Collins. (Yes, same dude with the primped, bad dye job.)
The Soviets botched the ensuing inbounds pass, which should’ve given the Americans the win. But the refs inexplicably recognized an official timeout by the Soviets that they claimed was taken before the turnover. (It wasn’t.) The clock, which was down to one second, was then reset to three seconds. (Crack East German engineering.)
Then things really got fun. (more…)
